Marsman Estate Plantation, Inc. (MEPI) is one of the first banana plantations in Mindanao, Philippines and marked the Marsman Drysdale Group’s entry into the global banana export market. Established in 1969, MEPI operates a 1,071-hectare plantation in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte. It is located just two hours from Davao City and less than an hour from Tagum City.

Over the decades, MEPI has set industry standards through advanced farming technologies, disciplined management, and a dedicated workforce. The company’s commitment to fair wages and employee welfare has fostered a loyal labor force, driving consistent productivity growth. MEPI’s yields have consistently exceeded industry averages, reaching a peak of eight million boxes annually in 2017, one of the highest production records in the sector.

A key factor in MEPI’s success is its strong focus on research and development. It originally housed the only biotechnology research unit in the Philippine banana industry, which later became the Marsman Drysdale Biotech and Research Corporation. These advancements further supported agricultural expansions, including the early adoption of more natural and sustainable banana farming practices aimed at reducing chemical inputs and meeting growing market demand for healthier produce.  Recognized as a model of agricultural modernization, MEPI continues to lead the industry through innovation, efficiency, and sustainability. As it moves forward, the company remains dedicated to excellence, ensuring its place at the forefront of Philippine agribusiness.

The plantation consists of two farm sites with roughly 238 hectares in the municipality of Nabunturan, Davao de Oro, about two hours north of Davao City.  Most of the leased land is situated between the hills of Barangay Cabidianan, with additional areas extending into the neighboring barangays of Manat, Ogao, Anislagan, Sta. Maria, and Antiquera.

The management selected the site due to its strategic location, fertile soil, and favorable climate. The presence of the Manat River, which runs through the plantation, provides natural drainage and contributes to the overall suitability of the land for banana cultivation.

Over the years, MDNAVI has become a key player in MDAHI’s banana operations and continues to contribute to the agricultural and economic development of the region.

Marsman Drysdale Group established its Guimaras mango orchard in the early 1980s, with carabao mango trees planted in 1985. By the mid-1990s, the orchard began bearing fruit, and over time, productivity steadily improved, marking an important milestone in the development of the farm.

In response to evolving market conditions, operations were streamlined in the 2000s and later resumed on a limited scale in 2016 to cater to the strong local and Metro Manila demand for premium Guimaras mangoes. For eight fruitful seasons, the orchard continued to delight customers with its signature produce.

Today, OVHDC remains committed to maximizing the potential of its Guimaras property. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, the company is actively exploring new ventures and optimized land use strategies that build on its agricultural legacy while paving the way for future growth.
